I. Tool Spotlight: Personalization & Meta-Prompting (Using ChatGPT)
Objective: Use Voice Mode and Meta-Prompting to quickly build a robust AI assistant persona. This showcases the “hidden tools” that enable continuous personalization.
- Step 1: Set Up Voice Mode. Open your Chat GPT Settings. Enable Voice Mode and select a voice—or use your platform’s Dictate feature.
- Step 2: Meta-Prompt Interview.
- Copy/paste the following prompt to your assistant: “Hi my name is (your name), and today’s date is 11/18/2025. Use your search feature to understand current best practices to create a personalized, human like assistant interaction between us. First, I’m filling out my ‘About Me/Personalization’ sections of your setting to help you understand my communication style and professional/personal focus. Can you interview me briefly, asking me three-five thoughtful and insightful questions that will give you the best possible information to write two 1500-character descriptions for both the ‘Custom Instructions’ and ‘More About You’ sections? If you need additional information, feel free to ask. Moving forward your name will be (add a custom name if you want)”
- Step 3: Fill Out Profile. Speak or type your answers to the three questions. Review the model’s generated text and paste it into your profile settings.
- Tool Spotlight: Bookshelf OCR & Projects (Using ChatGPT)
Goal: Show how to use OCR on a phone photo of a bookshelf to build a structured book list in Canvas, then turn it into an ongoing “Books of Interest” Project in ChatGPT.
You will need your phone and your laptop- Go ahead and login to ChatGPT on your phone and be sure it is the same email as your desktop.
Files Needed for Upload:
- A phone photo of a shelf of books (titles and authors visible on the spines)
Turn on Canvas Mode before starting the demo.
Prompt (to AI Assistant):
“Hi, today’s date is (insert today’s date). My name is (insert your name). I am going to take a photo of a shelf of books in the library. Wait until you receive the photo and then please use OCR and visual recognition to extract every visible book title and author from the image. Then
Create a 4-column spreadsheet here in Canvas with the following columns:
- Book Title
- Author
- A three-sentence summary of the book
- Other books by the same author
Display the table in the Canvas document AND provide it as a downloadable spreadsheet file (Excel or CSV). Assume answers to any clarifying questions you might have, and take your time to ensure the table is clean and well-structured.”
